"Fly" is the Dan Montgomery quintet's second studio album. It features 8 original songs and 2 improvised cadenzas by Dan that seek to capture the spirit of joy, peace and brotherhood. He could not be more honored or grateful to be releasing more music with his incredible quintet, consisting of Sam Priven, Neil Carson, Jake Shapiro and Evan Hyde, four excellent musicians that are also some of his closest friends. We hope you enjoy listening to this music as much as we enjoyed making it!

About the composer:

Dan Montgomery is an upright/electric bassist, vocalist, composer, bandleader and educator. He has performed with many incredible musicians, including Ari Hoenig, Troy Roberts, Ignacio Berroa, Remy Le Boeuf, Shelly Berg, Melvin Butler and Martin Bejerano, among others. He recently performed at the Newport Jazz Festival with the Ben Morris Quintet (2019), received the Pathways to Jazz Grant from the Boulder County Arts Alliance (2019), and placed third in the International Society of Bassists Jazz Competition (2017). His debut album "Storyteller" received a 4.5/5 star review from "All About Jazz," being called a "brash, audacious offering of classic modern jazz." He also has a live EP entitled "Emotional Machines: Live in San Francisco" which was recorded in July of 2019 at the Black Cat Jazz Club. Their newest album, "Fly", features more of Dan's original music that seeks to encapsulate the spirit of peace, joy and brotherhood.
